The Personal Trainer Specialist Exam
:

Those who choose the option to progress and become a certified Personal Trainer Specialist will complete a theory and a practical exam. These two components assess the candidate's knowledge, counseling skills, and practical application of fitness theory to train clients.

Commonly Asked Questions:

Theory Exam

Structure - The exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and a 100 mark case study.

What to bring - Bring a pen, pencil and a calculator.

Length - The exam has a maximum time of 3 hours. There is no extra time given if you arrive late.

Passing - A minimum grade of 80% is required to pass.

If I Fail - If you do not pass the first exam you can do a rewrite. It would also be suggested to spend time with a PRO TRAINER to go over your exam and get some advice on areas you may need to study on. This time can be arranged with your PRO TRAINER and paid for through them.

Practical Exam

How do I get my client - Your client will be given to you following your written exam. This will allow you time to properly prepare for the exam.

What do I need to bring  - You will need to dress appropriately as if you were doing a training session with your client. Bring with you any printouts of scales (RPE) that you may need to refer to with your client. Other items may include a stopwatch.

Paper work to fill out - You will need to provide a written or typed program for your client. Include all paper work that you would give to your client, or anything you woud keep in their file.  You do not need to bring in your CPR, that will be shown to  canfitpro when you have completed all the testing.

How do I book it - Your time can be scheduled with your PRO TRAINER following the written exam. It is an option, but not required to schedule the written and practical together.

Do I need to bring a client - You do not have to provide your own client. Your PRO TRAINER will either be your client, or provide you with one. Check with your PRO TRAINER at the time you set your exam date.

How long is the exam - The practical wil last 60-90 minutes.

Passing - A minimum grade of 80% is required to pass

If I Fail -  If you fail the practical you may want to purchase some time with your PRO TRAINER to go over questions you may have and watch part of a session. This can be booked with your PRO TRAINER.
